Using ARIA in HTML

ARIA and HTML5I have published an intial draft of a document I have been working on which attempts to provide practical advice to developers on what ARIA to use in HTML:

Using ARIA in HTML – intial draft

My intention is to provide a non normative resource that fills in the gaps in the current HTML5 specification and a document that is more readable (i.e. less jargonist) It does deviate from HTML5 in some of its suggestions, these deviations are based on current implementation realities.

Feedback/comments welcome!

  1. Hi there…

I’m a web journalist currently losing my sight, so am engaged in finding out as much as possible about what’s going on with accessibility for professional and very personal reasons both!

Is there a good overview of the current industry take on ARIA? My job has involved me fairly heavily in web dev, so I’m (mildly) comfortable in the specs and discussion docs, but I’d love to get a feel for how and when it’s likely to start making a practical difference, where the debates are going on, and if there may be practical contributions I could make.

    Thanks,

    Rupert
